Legal Aid Ontario lawyers are thankful for the support and solidarity of the Ontario Nurses’ Association as we move closer to our representation vote taking place during the week of October 17. ONA, including president Linda Haslam-Stroud, has stood with us for years in our campaign for collective bargaining rights. Their latest show up solidarity came in the form of a letter to Society of Energy Professionals president Scott Travers.
The original ONA letter is available in PDF here and is available in text below.

I am writing to you on behalf of 62,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals in a show of solidarity and support with our Society brothers and sisters involved in a struggle to win collective bargaining rights for Legal Aid Ontario Staff Lawyers.
As you know, ONA represents registered nurses across the province. Nurses also are a professional group of employees that face many of the same issues and working conditions that the Legal Aid Staff Lawyers are dealing with: infringements on their professional and ethical obligations, staffing levels and unsustainable workloads, lack of training opportunities, and inability to provide input into workplace policies directly affecting their patients.
We fully support the right of professional employees to unionize and to engage in collective bargaining. We are pleased that your efforts have forced a secret ballot vote where employees may make their choice known.
We know that good jobs with benefits and security are critical for our local economies and the future progress of Ontario. We also know that the path to good jobs and more control over working conditions is through unionization.
We wish you all the best in your vote. We absolutely endorse your quest to organize and represent Legal Aid Staff Lawyers to fulfill their right to collective bargaining.
I wish you all the best with your vote for the Legal Aid Staff Lawyers.
