Last Wednesday afternoon we were informed via our legal counsel that the Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) Board passed a motion agreeing to enter into discussions with The Society of Energy Professionals.
Those discussions, which began this week, are aimed at developing a process relating to recognition of the Society as bargaining agent for LAO lawyers, and a framework agreement governing the bargaining process.
This is a huge step forward in our campaign to secure collective bargaining rights. For more than three years, LAO has refused to recognize us in any way, let alone meet with us, so we are excited and optimistic with this positive momentum.
In the meantime, until a mutually acceptable agreement is reached, our Charter challenge will still be proceeding.
The next couple of weeks are crucial in our campaign to secure collective bargaining rights and we need your continued efforts to keep our employer, and the government, accountable to their promises and to build internal understanding among LAO Lawyers.
We will be doing our best to provide timely updates on our progress towards a signed recognition/framework agreement, and will also be providing many opportunities for you to contribute to the campaign. To do so, it is very important that we have your correct contact information and that we know you are receiving regular communications via email, social media, phone calls, or directly from a colleague. Would you please email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let us know your preferred methods of contact?
